Abstract

The human mind is not merely a manifestation of individual experiences; rather, it is a complex psychological construct shaped by social structures, cultural memory, and lived realities. Contemporary literature has increasingly foregrounded the intricate relationship between individual consciousness and the socio-cultural forces that influence human behaviour and emotional experiences. Within this literary tradition, the Malayalam writer K. R. Meera occupies a prominent position for her profound exploration of the psychological complexities of human existence, particularly those experienced by women. Her narratives intricately portray the emotional and psychological consequences of patriarchal oppression, social marginalisation, identity crises, trauma, loneliness, and internal conflicts. These psychological dimensions are presented not merely as individual conditions but as manifestations of broader socio-cultural realities. Against this backdrop, the present study seeks to examine the psychological dimensions represented in K. R. Meera's novel Meerasadhu, with particular emphasis on the ways in which psychological distress, loneliness, and inner conflicts are articulated through the experiences of its characters. By adopting a psychological perspective, this paper aims to analyse the complex interplay between the characters' inner consciousness and the socio-cultural forces that shape their psychological experiences.
