Located on the western slopes of the Kodaikanal range in Dindigul district, the village of Bachalur has a unique geographical environment and a cultural history that embraces tribal traditions. This article examines the religious rituals, worship of indigenous deities, nature and ancestor worship of the people of Bachalur from my own field research perspective and a sociological perspective. This article expands on how the religious life of these people is not limited to mere rituals, their agricultural life, relationship with forests, social control and communal living. This study also deeply analyzes the contribution of these rituals in restoring the indigenous identities of the hill people.
